Punishment and Hell

Hell is a place of punishment for the wicked after they face God’s judgement.
1. Hell is a place of punishment.
2. Hell is described in imagery of fire and darkness, where people lament.
3. Hell is a place of annihilation or never-ending punishment.

Jesus used the word ghenna ( Translated as “hell”) twelve times in the Gospels.

The even is judgment day, which will occur when Christ comes back. After Jesus looks at the evidence, He gives His verdict: Believers are awarded everlasting life, while unbelievers are awarded everlasting punishment. Thought the word hell is not used here, the concept of hell is conveyed by the phrases “everlasting fire” v41 and “everlasting punishment” v46

Jesus goes on to say the God’s courtroom will be much worse, for here the Judge has the power to sentence you to the “hell of fire”

Here is one passage where gehenna is used in the context of God’s future judgement.
